Conference manuscripts for ICSE-10 can be submitted to Applied Physics Letters (APL), or Journal of Applied Physics (JAP), or AIP Advances (ADV). Accepted manuscripts will be collated in a joint Special-Topic Collection on Spectroscopic Ellipsometry. Articles will undergo regular peer review and will be handled by regular Associate Editors at APL, JAP, and ADV. This Special-Topic Collection will open in June 2025 and close in November 2025.
The Special Topic seeks manuscript submissions covering a broad range of aspects in the field of ellipsometry and polarimetry, as well as related applications utilizing the polarization properties of light as a diagnostic of surfaces, interfaces, thin films, nanostructures, and bulk materials. We seek manuscripts which report on newest advances in theory, instrumentation, and applications of spectroscopic ellipsometry and polarimetry across physics, chemistry, material science, and life sciences, as well as engineering and metrology. The guest editors for this Special Topic will be David Aspnes, Alain Diebold, and Mathias Schubert.
All authors will be given the opportunity to choose which journal they would like to be included in this multi-journal collection: APL (short-form letters); JAP (comprehensive, long-form articles), and ADV (either format is acceptable). Papers that are deemed not appropriate for publication in APL and JAP by the editors can be considered for transfer to AIP Advances and still remain in the collection. JAP will also accept transfers from APL as the editors suggest.
Please note the following about APL, JAP, and ADV:
- APL is a hybrid subscription journal. It is free to publish with APL’s traditional license. Authors can elect for open access publication in APL but must agree to pay an Article Processing Charge (APC) of $3800.
- JAP is a hybrid subscription journal the same as APL, except it is part of AIP Publishing’s Subscribe to Open pilot. All submissions in 2025, even if published in 2026, will be made Open Access at NO CHARGE to authors.
- ADV is a gold open access journal. Authors must pay an APC of $1800 to publish. There are limited discounts and waivers available for authors of certain countries. Those details can be found here: https://publishing.aip.org/resources/researchers/open-science/open-access/#policy
Submission opening day for this Special Topic will be announced soon. Submission must be done through the regular submission sites for APL, JAP, or ADV. During submission, the manuscript must be assigned to this Special Topic via a drop-down menu. Further instructions will follow soon as well.
